Theoretical Perspectives “… show the assumptions that you bring to your research, which, in turn, leads to the selection of research methods, data collection instruments, and analysis procedures.” [online] At: https://phdcentre.com/theoretical-perspectives-phd/ (Accessed 14.11.2023)
Starting research on the topic of theories, I began with attempts to attribute my beliefs to a particular theory. But after trying to get acquainted with some of them, I realized that this is not the right path for me.
An Ultimate Guide to Theoretical Perspectives for Your PhD Thesis [online] At: https://phdcentre.com/theoretical-perspectives-phd/ (Accessed 14.11.2023)
Therefore, I started at first - I asked myself the question of what beliefs I have, what I believe in and what is important to me?
On the one hand, the highest value for me is the happiness and security of a person. So it can be assumed that humanism is one of the main theories that I could follow. But humanism implies the rationalism and independent choice of a person through morality. And here I have questions, my art follows from irrational and not logical, and this, in my opinion, is the potential for development. In other words, the ability of a person to break the paradigm and get out of the usual framework is the engine of progress. In addition, in 2022 the war in Ukraine and in 2023 the war in Gaza demonstrates that many people simply do not have morality. Many as animals kill people and this is according to their own deep beliefs. Therefore, I question the fact that a person is able to independently make decisions and have morality not to kill.
In addition, I am interested in the theory of conflict. When studying this term, I faced a huge number of literature on the topic of politics, Marxism and social dominance.
But I am more of interest to the definition of the conflict that the Cambridge Dictionary gives at the very end of the list:
«If beliefs, needs, or facts, etc. conflict, they are very different and cannot easily exist together or both be true» Cambridge Dictionary, conflict [online] At: https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/english/conflict (Accessed 16.11.2023)
Since my new reality has become that many of my friends think that a war in Ukraine is necessary, I come to the conclusion and am inclined to a relativist position. Because there are many realities and facts that contradict each other. Everyone's reality is shaped by the context of their location. For each of us there is no clear truth! Some believe that the events in 2022 in Bucha, Ukraine were fabricated, others know that this was the work of Russian soldiers. It is precisely the understanding of these boundaries of formed realities, context, and truth that attracts me to explore through my art.
