Reflection on the Tutor’s Report

Updated: Sep 26, 2019

I had the first feedback on the work done. Despite some communication issues in my essays which can be improved and usage of Harvard referencing system overall comments gave me a motivational support.

First of all, “taking every opportunity that arises to investigate our visual culture…with a critical eye is vital” (OCA tutor) and formulating these thoughts even more important. Arranging your own thoughts and formulating conclusions develop more than book which you just read.

Second, study a historical events and theories “might have been superseded or modified since” but “that ideas were very influential on the culture of their time and in some cases still have some influence” (OCA tutor). Understanding of this concept of the event’s value closer to my mind than learn by hard or copying methods without any creativity.

Some conclusions on the Part 1 are:

– ideas of a Victorian thinker (Ruskin) is not actually relevant today but to know the impact it made at that time is important;

– nature and purpose of Painting logically cam come to the point of creating “Art for Art”;

– with all deductions you might have regarding any art work or any event it doesn't mean anything because can be proved opposite.

One thing which I can’t understand is why I should separate sections on my blog, of the research, sketches, books read and exhibitions visited, in between both courses. I have one head (thank God)) and everything what I do is very important as a development for each course (Drawing and Understanding of Visual Culture). It is amazing that a have a chance to combine this two subjects because it increases my potential and supports for each of the course. I was not allowed to practice at the same time another course –“Understanding Painting Media” which I believe would give even more opportunities for development than to study all of them separate. So I’m not a revolutionist yet (though this is what makes things develop) I changed a bit structure of my blog but I hope that one day this point will be considered.
